Hybrid-Electric Vehicles

Passenger Cars

Inmiddels is de tweede generatie Hybride Electrische Voertuigen (HEVs)op de markt. Het aantal HEVs is 140,000 wereldwijd.
Er zijn autoverhuurbedrijven die de auto's in hun wagenpark vervangen door HEVs:
Met de eerste generatie HEVs is tot duverre de meeste practische ervaring opgedaan (Ervaring met de Honda Insight in Duistland).

Openbaar Vervoer
300 seriele hybride electrische bussen worden afgeleverd(waarvan 180 in New York) and 700 bussen zijn besteld door de Toronto Transit Commission, San Francisco MUNI, New York City Transit en MTA Bus.
Sinds 2004, zijn meer dan 440 parallelle hybride aangedreven bussen afgeleverd aan diverse gemeentes in de VS en Canada.
In Turijn zijn in 2006 twee Iveco ECODRIVE bussen aangeschaft door Gruppo Torinese Trasporti (GTT).

In Graz, Austria a taxi company (Kali-Auto-Taxi Tel: ++43/(0)316/2604) started in 2003 to use 16 Opel Zafira powered by natural gas.

Public Transport buses

In Ostermundigen near Bern, Switzerland BernMobil runs a Biogas fuelled Bus (Volvo 7700 CNG).

Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, will be operating a fleet of 223 CNG buses by the end of the year, representing about a third of the total urban bus fleet in the state.

New South Wales is buying an additional 300 CNG buses, while Brisbane's City Council recently approved the purchase of 120 new CNG-powered buses source.

Public Transport Buses

Starting April 2006 Cincinnati Metro is fueling all of its buses with a B50 biodiesel blend (50% biodiesel). They will switch back to a B20 blend in colder months.
Biodiesel from used cooking oil is used by the Graz based GVB (Austria) for the entire 132 Bus Fleet.

Methanol-fueled Test Bed Buses use a 50 kW phosphoric acid fuel cell as the main power source more....
Direct Ethanol Fuel cells are still under development increasing the power density. Also fuel cells operating on diesel are investigated although GTL-fuels with less sulphur could be the better choice.

During WWII wood gas usage was frequent (finnish source).
